At Stretch and Movement, our expert therapist will help you regain control of your body in person or from the comfort of your home. Our 1-1 stretch sessions take place in a private and controlled environment at our Little Portland Street Clinic in London, conveniently located close to Marylebone.

Our 1-1 assisted stretching sessions offer personalised support to help your body feel its best and move with ease. Whether you’re recovering from a workout, managing stiffness, or looking to improve athletic performance, assisted stretching will allow you to regain mobility and flexibility improving your overall well being.

What Is Assisted Stretching?

Assisted stretching is a guided, hands-on therapy that improves flexibility, mobility, and muscle function. It is perfect for individuals of all activity levels. It involves a trained specialist gently stretching your muscles beyond what you can achieve on your own. We help you to release tension, enhance range of motion, and reduce the risk of injury. Unlike traditional stretching, which relies solely on the individual to move and hold their own positions, assisted stretching involves external support and guidance.

The Benefits Of Assisted Stretching

Assisted stretching enhances your overall performance by improving flexibility, accelerating recovery, and increasing your joints range of motion.

Assisted Stretching Session Stretch & Movement

Assisted stretching provides both immediate relief and lasting results, making it an essential part of life for those serious about maintaining their mobility, reducing stiffness, and preventing long-term physical discomfort. While many of our clients experience instant improvements, the real benefits come from consistent and ongoing practice. Stretch sessions do not provide a quick fix. Assisted stretching is a structured approach designed to enhance movement patterns, correct muscle imbalances, and promote long-term physical well-being

Stretch sessions for aches & pains

As we get older we unfortunately get stiffer. This is a result of lubricating fluid inside our joints decreasing and our cartilage becoming thinner. Although this process begins to happen in our 30s, it is beneficial to stretch at any age! By attending assisted stretching sessions you can ensure that you are maintaining a level of flexibility and mobility which will reduce your chances of serious injury as you get older. At Stretch & Movement we work with you on a tailored stretching plan that is suited for your age and current range of motion ensuring you get the best out of every stretch session!

Assisted stretching is perfect for aging bodies

Athletes, including runners, weightlifters, golfers, and tennis players, benefit greatly from assisted stretching as a consistent performance-enhancing strategy. Regular stretch sessions help improve range of motion, muscle recovery, and injury prevention, ensuring that the body functions optimally during training and competition. Similarly, physiotherapists often recommend assisted stretching as part of a rehabilitation plan for individuals recovering from injuries. This is due to the fact it can help restore mobility and prevent recurring stiffness. A flexible joint is an optimal joint and one that is less likely to become injured in the future!

Assisted stretching for athletes

For individuals with sedentary lifestyles, assisted stretching is a powerful solution to counteract the negative effects of prolonged sitting. Many professionals and office workers spend hours each day at a desk, leading to muscle tightness, poor posture, reduced mobility, and chronic stiffness. This is especially common in the lower back, hips, and shoulders. Over time, this lack of movement can contribute to discomfort, restricted range of motion, and even long-term musculoskeletal issues. Assisted stretching helps reverse these effects by actively lengthening tight muscles, improving circulation, and promoting better posture. Through carefully guided, deep stretches that are difficult to achieve on your own, we aim to improve your mobility.

What Happens At A´Stretch Session?

During our 1 on 1 assisted stretching session, you can expect a structured and personalised experience designed to enhance flexibility, mobility, and overall muscle function. Before beginning, Rachelle will conduct an initial assessment, which may include taking before images to track your progress over time. She will go over your goals, physical limitations, and any concerns to tailor the session to your needs. If you're a member or part of a package, you'll also receive a monthly range of motion test. We also offer a set of bespoke exercises to complement your stretching routine and further improve mobility outside of sessions.

For maximum comfort and effectiveness we recommend wearing loose or comfortable clothing. Clothing such as gym, yoga, or Pilates attire will allow for unrestricted movement ensuring you get the most out of your session. Once the session begins, Rachelle will guide you through a series of passive and active stretches, gently moving your body into positions that would be difficult to achieve alone. The focus is on elongating muscles, releasing tension, and increasing joint mobility. Throughout the process, Rachelle will monitor your breathing, encourage relaxation, and make necessary adjustments to ensure a deep yet safe stretch. Many clients experience immediate results, such as reduced stiffness, increased flexibility, and an overall sense of relaxation.

The Approach

Take the time to listen and understand your unique concerns, health history, and lifestyle to create treatment plans specifically designed for you.

When Is Assisted Stretching Most Effective?

Assisted stretching is most effective on rest or recovery days as this is when the body is not under significant physical strain.

However, it can also be beneficial post-workout for those preparing for sporting events. This makes it particularly popular among marathon runners and HYROX athletes who require enhanced mobility and faster recovery. Regardless of fitness level, anyone can benefit from assisted stretching, as it improves performance, aids recovery, relieves stress, enhances posture, increases flexibility, and expands joint range of motion. For individuals with hypermobility or those who are pregnant, different techniques are applied with extra caution to avoid overstretching or causing any discomfort. In these cases, it is always best to consult with a practitioner beforehand to ensure a safe and beneficial experience.
